Scherman Projects is pleased to present 1:15, a group exhibition
featuring the works of University of Guelph MFA students.
Constructed systems of reference such as cartography and transcription
form a conceptual meeting place for the various works selected
for the show. The exhibition title, 1:15 denotes scale and
reference, while also representing the ratio of the group
to the individuals in the exhibition.
This show marks the inauguration of Georgia Scherman Project’s
annual MFA exhibition programming. Each year GSP intends to
showcase the talent emerging out of our Canadian fine art
departments.
1:15 was conceived to present the outstanding students of
the University of Guelph MFA program. The two-year intensive
studio program features a preeminent faculty and excellent
studio facilities. Director of the School of Fine Art and
Music, John Kissick, explains that the aims of the MFA program
are “to bring the best young artists to campus to learn
from some of the country's most dynamic practitioners. We
believe the results--namely our alumni and their accomplishments
on the national and international stage-- speak for themselves.”
The artists included in 1:15 include Katie Brennan,
Hyang Cho, Stephen Fisher, Margaret Flood, Maggie Groat, Doug
Jarvis, Dawn Johnston, Shane Krepakevich, Laura Madera, Ryan
Park, Nadja Pelkey, Kristoff Steinruck, Beth Stuart, Jeff
Tutt and Daniel Woodrow. Curated by Elena Soboleva.
