"My recent photographs and videos explore contingent relationships between documentation and construction. Through structure and subject matter I strive to construct relationships that promote or describe a rift in the status of the subject. This work depicts the same male subject, Scott, in different circumstances and roles: in videos he recounts his unscripted reality (Terminal Portrait) or performs given tasks/lines within staged environments (Double Garage Scene). Within each distinct work, but moreover when they are considered in relation to one another, the subject’s own life events are entangled with scripted performances, leaving both in an unresolved relational condition. I am interested in the way in which the projects support and counter each other, collectively resolving a body of evidence that hinges incidental, documented details with instances of overt performance." - artist statement
